CWFNC Exec. Director Joins EPA's Nat'l Drinking Water Advisory Council

May, 2009 Seattle CWFNC's Hope Taylor attended her first meeting as a new member of the Nat'l Drinking Water Advisory Council. Issues discussed included water affordability for small public water systems, developing protective rules for carbon "geo-sequestration," effective utility management and increasing resilience to climate change. Hope will serve as a voice for rural water, economically just policies and energy/water efficiency.

Executive Summary

______________________________

No New Power Plants: Not Coal, Not Nuclear

NC's electric utilities, which produce most of our power from coal and nuclear plants, are responsible for over 80% of the state's reported water withdrawals. A complete energy budget for nuclear energy plants shows that tying up the capital and fossil fuels to build them only prevents progress to a sustainable energy and water future.

When you save energy, you save water, too. When you advocate for an end to energy policies that tie ratepayers to water-hogging power plants for fear of blackouts, you are working for a safe water future, too. Your voice is needed to call for fair and just policies for NC's future water resources. Contact us today!
